An ice scraper blade assembly is arranged to be supported on an ice scraping device for movement across a sheet of ice to extend transversely to a forward working direction. The assembly includes an extruded steel beam having a layer of machinable material secured along a bottom side of the beam which differs from the material of the beam. A blade is fastened below the layer of machinable material using bolts connected between the blade and the beam. The blade can be straightened and levelled by machining the layer of material on the bottom of the beam so that the extruded beam remains fully intact during the straightening and levelling process and accordingly thermal deformation of the beam during use is predictable and can be accommodated for when machining the layer of machinable material.
