ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is disclosed an ice-skate blade in which the portion of the ice-engaging surface of the blade which is inter- mediate the sharpened side edges of the blade, is polished to a mirror-finish, in order to decrease the friction between the blade and the ice. To polish this intermediate surface with conventional polishing compounds, a felt disc is used. A width- reducing device is used to taper the marginal portion of the disc to the width required to sharpen only the central surface of the blade and not the side edges. This device comprises an assembly of blocks, or braces, forming a V-shape slot with the inclined surfaces lined with abrasive material to receive the marginal portion of the felt disc which is reduced in width while rotated in said slot.
