The invention relates to a method for identifying and validating plant targets for agrochemicals, comprising the steps of determining gene or protein expression profiles in function of the progression of an essential biological process in a plant, and the subsequent downregulation of expression of said gene or protein in a plant cell. More particularly, the effects of downregulation of the candidate target gene were directly monitored on plants locally infected with a vector mediating viral induced gene suppression in that infected plant area. The invention also relates to isolated plant genes encoding proteins involved in plant growth and development. The invention also relates to plants tolerant to agrochemicals such as herbicides or pesticides.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'identification et de validation de cibles végétales pour produits agrochimiques, qui comporte les étapes consistant à déterminer des profils d'expression de gène ou de protéine en fonction de l'évolution d'un processus biologique essentiel dans une plante, et à réguler ultérieurement de façon négative l'expression de ce gène ou de cette protéine dans une plante ou une cellule végétale. Plus particulièrement, les effets de la régulation négative du gène cible candidat ont été surveillés directement sur des plantes infectées localement à l'aide d'un vecteur qui provoque une suppression de gène induite par un virus dans la zone infectée de la plante. L'invention concerne aussi des gènes de plante isolés codant pour des protéines qui interviennent dans la croissance et le développement de la plante. L'invention concerne aussi des plantes résistant à des produits agrochimiques tels que des herbicides ou pesticides.
