Methods of introgressing one or more desired guantitative traits into a plant are provided. These methods comprise the steps of screening one or more restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP) for association with quantitative traits (QT), selecting one or more RFLP's showing association with the desired QT's, developing a mathematical model based on the magnitude of the association of RFLP(s) to predict the degree of expression of the desired QT's, and using the thus-selected RFLP(s) and the mathematical model in a plant breeding program to predict the degree of introgression and expression of the desired QT's in plant progeny.
