A DNA sequence encoding a novel human growth factor receptor referred to as a type III receptor tyrosine kinase is de- scribed. The amino acid sequence of the receptor is also described. The receptor has a sequence which is similar to that of the ki- nase domains of known type III receptor tyrosine kinases, but which is unique in its kinase insert domain sequence. The receptor binds specifically to the vascular endothelial cell growth factor.
