An electro-fusion fitting (10) consists of a body (12) of thermoplastics e.g. polyethylene, with a heater element (14) connected to heater terminals (16, 18) and identification devices (60, 62) moulded in the body (12). The devices are connected to the heater terminals and to identification terminals (20, 22). A control unit (24) connects a reference voltage (74) in turn to the device (60) and then the device (62). In each case the device forms a voltage divider with a resistance (80) so that the value of the device is found. The two values identify the fitting so that the time the element (14) is energised can be set automatically by the unit (24) for each different size or kind of fitting. Neither device requires to be a specially accurate component and the range of values of the devices is less than it would be for a given range of fittings if only one device was used per fitting.
Une garniture à fixation par électro-fusion (10) comprend un corps (12) en matière thermoplastique, par exemple, le polyéthylène, doté d'un élément de chauffage (14) relié aux bornes d'un moyen de chauffage (16, 18) et de dispositifs d'identification (60, 62) moulés dans ledit corps (12), lesdits dispositifs étant reliés aux bornes de chauffage et aux bornes d'identification (20, 22). Une unité de commande (24) fournit une tension de référence (74) au dispositif (60) et ensuite au dispositif (62), chaque dispositif effectuant la fonction de diviseur de tension ayant une résistance (80) de sorte que l'on puisse déterminer la valeur du dispositif. Les deux valeurs servent à identifier la garniture de manière que la durée d'activation de l'élément (14) puisse être fixée automatiquement pour toute sorte de garniture par l'unité (24). Il n'est pas nécessaire que lesdits dispositifs présentent une précision très élevée, l'étendue des valeurs étant inférieure à celle d'une série donnée de garnitures dans le cas où l'on ne se servirait que d'un seul dispositif.
