ABSTRACT A process is disclosed for producing an erasable writing area integral with the shell enclosing the information storage medium of an information technology product. The area provides a means for identifying the contents of the information storage medium. The process comprises depositing a film of printing ink on the surface or the shell in a pattern to provide an area for writing and erasing and exposing the shell to an ink curing process. The ink, on curing, adheres to the surface of the shell by a surface chemical reaction, and has a writable, erasable finish.
