ABSTRACT An identification tag has a body portion 2 and a strap portion 3. An upstanding indicia portion 4 is maintained in a non-rotatable position relative to the strap portion 3 by the engagement of a projection 12A on tab 12 with a key-way at the bottom of recess 14 alongside the bore 21 in one end of the strap portion 13. The enlarged and pointed end 7 of the shank 5 extends through both of the aligned bores 21 when the strap portion 3 is doubled over to engage behind the second bore 21. The end 7 is also driven through the animal's ear by the applicator's driving pin being accomodated in the bore 8 in the shank 5. In this way the driving pin does not come into contact with the animal's tissue so avoiding cross-infection between animals.
