An improved idler roller for a belt conveyor for conveying bulk materials includes a cylindrical roller shell (12), and a pair of cast roller heads (16) fitted to respective opposite open ends of the roller shell. Bearing assemblies (26, 28) fitted within each of the roller heads mount the roller for rotation on a pair of stub shafts (24). Notably, the configuration of the stub shafts and bearing assemblies desirably acts to minimize deflection of the shafts, and thus misalignment of the bearing assemblies. Greater service life for the bearing assemblies, and thus the idler roller, are thus achieved, or alternatively, the rated load for the idler roller, for a given service life is increased.

Cette invention concerne un rouleau intermédiaire de bande transporteuse pour matériaux en vrac. Ce rouleau comprend un manchon cylindrique (12) muni à chacune de ses extrémités d'une tête (16) moulée. Dans chacune des têtes, des ensembles paliers (26-28) assurent la rotation du rouleau sur une paire d'axes (24) en porte-à-faux. A noter que la configuration des axes en porte-à-faux et des ensembles paliers contribue à réduire la flexion desdits axes et, par la même, les défauts d'alignement des ensembles paliers. Les ensembles palier et donc le rouleau intermédiaire offrent une durée de service accrue. De même, le rouleau peut supporter une charge nominale plus importante pour une durée de service donnée.
