A briquette of carbonaceous combustible material incorporates oxidizing material. The briquette may be formed with a body of combustible material and an igniting layer incorporating oxidizing material formed thereon. The briquette can be annular with a single flue therethrough. It can also have a number of flues running from one end to the other to provide oxygen for improved combustion.
