The circuit includes a source of high voltage applied across a spark gap and a diode and a capacitor connected in parallel between the voltage source and the spark gap. In one embodiment, a diode is connected between the voltage source and the spark gap, the diode having an inherent capacitance such that the diode acts as a capacitor when reverse biased.
