Systems and methods for igniting fuel in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine having at least one combustion chamber utilizing a traveling spark ignitor having at least two electrodes are disclosed. The ignitor is arranged in the combustion chamber such that ends of electrodes are substantially flush with walls of the at least one combustion chamber. A first voltage is provided between the electrodes to cause an initial breakdown of a gaseous air/fuel mixture present between the electrodes and, later, a follow- on current that travels between the electrodes after the initial breakdown is provided.
La présente invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés d'allumage de carburant dans une chambre de combustion d'un moteur à combustion interne présentant au moins une chambre de combustion qui utilise un allumeur à étincelles mobile, pourvu d'au moins deux électrodes. Ledit allumeur est monté dans la chambre de combustion de façon que des extrémités d'électrodes affleurent sensiblement des parois d'au moins une chambre de combustion. Une première tension est appliquée entre les électrodes, afin de provoquer le claquage initial d'un mélange gazeux air/carburant, présent entre les électrodes, puis un courant subséquent circule entre les électrodes après le claquage initial.
