An ignition wire includes a conductive core, an insulation layer surrounding the core, an insulating jacket surrounding the insulation layer and a coating layer which is grafted and bonded to at least a portion of an exterior surface of the insulating jacket. The coating layer and insulating jacket are preferably formed of silicone materials. The coating layer is operative to provide enhanced resistance to heat and abrasion, as well as other benefits to the exterior surface of the insulating jacket. The coating layer may be transparent and provide an aesthetically pleasing clear coat, or may be tinted or colored to produce various other cosmetic or decorative characteristics to the outer surface of the ignition wire. The coating layer provides these enhanced protections without the diminishing electrical or mechanical performance properties of either the insulation layer or the insulating jacket. The coating layer is also adapted to provide protection to a cosmetic layer which may be applied to the exterior surface of the insulating jacket.
L~invention se rapporte à un fil d~allumage composé d~un noyau conducteur, d~une couche isolante entourant le noyau, d~une gaine isolante recouvrant la couche isolante et d~une couche de revêtement qui est greffée et liée à au moins une partie de la surface extérieure de la gaine isolante. La couche de revêtement et la gaine isolante seront de préférence composées de matériaux à base de silicone. La couche de revêtement sert à accroître la résistance thermique et à l~usure en plus d~offrir d~autres avantages au niveau de la surface extérieure de la gaine isolante. La couche de revêtement peut être transparente et offrir un fini clair, agréable du point de vue esthétique. Elle peut également être teinte ou colorée afin d~apporter diverses nuances cosmétiques ou décoratives à la surface extérieure du fil d~allumage. La couche de revêtement offre ces modes de protection sans porter atteinte aux caractéristiques de performance électrique ou mécanique de la couche isolante ou de la gaine isolante. La couche de revêtement est également conçue pour protéger toute couche cosmétique susceptible d~être appliquée sur la surface extérieure de la gaine isolante.
