The present invention relates to IL-6 antagonist peptides isolated from a peptide library through the two-hybrids system by their ability to bind to the intracellular domain of gp 130. Such peptides contain at least 5 amino acids and comprise an amino acid sequence as disclosed in SEQ. ID NOs: 1-8. Substantially purified peptides are suitable for use in pharmaceutical compositions as active ingredients in pathologies that require IL-6 activity inhibition.
