ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A xerographic copying machine is disclosed that uses two Xenon lamps for illuminating a document on the platen. To prevent strobing of the latent electrostatic image on the machine's photoconductive member due to an AC line source, the two lamps are alternately energized to create the effect of a constant illumination. When one lamp is energized the other is de-energized. Each lamp is energized equally for like time intervals.
