14 ABSTRACT: Image detector for camera operating in "day-night" mode. The invention relates to an image detector for a camera operating in two modes, a "day" mode and a "night-" mode, containing, inside an evacuated envelope, a semi- transparent photocathode for the transmission of incident photons or for converting them into photoelectrons according to whether the mode is "day" or "night" res- pectively, and a detector capable of converting the in- cident photons or the photoelectrons into an electrical image signal and electronic means for focussing the photo- electrons on the detector, and optical means for focussing the photons on the photocathode or the detector according to whether the mode is "nigh-t" or "day" respectively. The invention is notable in that the semi-transparent photo- cathode comprises a thin layer having at least one active layer of a III-V n-type material, the detector consists of a two-dimensional charge transfer device, and the electronic means for focussing the photoelectrons on the charge transfer device comprise proximity focussing means.
