\ An apparatus which adjusts the sensitivity capability of a sensor pixel when the light input goes beyond its normal dynamic light range. The apparatus may use an adjustable strobe width and/or other methods to desensitize or sensitize the pixel when the signal is too high or too low respectively. The apparatus may also use a method by which incident light on the image is made to change instead of the strobe width. This invention also allows any non-linear output from any type scanner to be linearized. It allows subtle shades of grey, not normally viewed due to the "washing out" effects of very wide dynamic and intense input signals, to be displayed with greater clarity.
