ABSTRACT An image enhancement system 10 for substantially eliminating the lines present in a color image produced by a video display 12. The inventive image enhancement system 10 is operative to sequentially vary the location, as perceived from a viewing position X, of a video image relative to a screen 16 of the display 12. The system 10 includes a controllable optical arrangement 14 which may be placed in first and second orientations relative to the display screen 16. The optical arrangement 14 provides a first optical path between the viewing position X and the display screen 16 when in the first orientation, and provides a second optical path between the viewing position X and the display screen 16 when in the second orientation. The inventive image enhancement system 10 also includes an electromechanical controller 22, 26, 28 and 30 for placing the controllable optical arrangement 14 in the first and second orientations.
