A method of image formation which employs a lithographic printing plate precursor having a combination of desirable lithographic properties and excellent flexibility which allows the precursor to be exposed in roll fed film and paper imagesetters and phototypesetters. The printing plate precursor incorporates a photosensitive coating containing silver halide, which is suitable for direct-to-plate exposure and a base substrate comprising a laminate of aluminium and plastic. After exposure by means of an imagesetter or phototypesetter, the printing plate precursor is processed to provide hydrophilic non-image areas and oleophilic image areas.
