A residual toner collecting system is provided in an electrostatographic reproduction machine. The collecting system includes units within the reproduction machine for generating waste or residual toner; members within the machine defining an elongate loading aperture for a removable cartridge, and a fixed position interference member adjacent the loading aperture. The collecting system also includes an elongate cartridge unit for removably loading into the loading aperture, and a residual toner collecting sump assembly connected to an externally directed end of the cartridge unit for receiving residual toner from the residual toner generating units. The collecting sump assembly includes a frame defining a visible end cavity, and a top wall defining a chamber for holding residual toner. The collecting sump assembly also includes an opening into the chamber, and a shutter assembly pivotably mounted to the top wall over the opening. The shutter assembly includes a generally flat shutter plate that is directly engageable by the interference member upon loading of the cartridge unit into the loading aperture. The shutter plate is automatically movable pivotably from a closed non-visible position, into an open position in the visible end cavity so as to be open and verifiably visible.
L'invention est un système de collecte de toner résiduel pour machine de reproduction électrostatographique. Le système de collecte de l'invention comprend des unités incorporées à la machine de reproduction pour produire un toner de rebut ou toner résiduel, des éléments internes de la machine définissant une ouverture de chargement allongée pour une cartouche amovible, et un élément de blocage à une position fixe voisin de l'ouverture de chargement. Le système de collecte comprend également une cartouche allongée que l'on peut introduire dans l'ouverture de chargement et une cuvette de collecte de toner résiduel connectée à l'une des extrémités de la cartouche pour recevoir le toner résiduel produit par les unités génératrices de toner résiduel. La cuvette de collecte comporte un cadre définissant une cavité à fond visible et une paroi supérieure définissant une chambre de réception du toner résiduel. La cuvette de collecte comprend également une ouverture pratiquée dans ladite chambre et un obturateur pouvant tourner monté sur la paroi supérieure se trouvant au-dessus de ladite ouverture. L'obturateur comprend généralement une plaque d'obturation plate qui s'enclenche sur l'élément de blocage au moment de l'introduction de la cartouche dans l'ouverture de chargement. La plaque d'obturation est déplacée automatiquement par un mouvement de rotation d'une position fermée non visible à une position ouverte dans la cavité à extrémité visible de façon à ce que l'on puisse constater qu'elle est ouverte.
