There is disclosed an image processing apparatus capable of reading image and synthesizing it with another standardized image signal supplied from outside and stored in a memory provided in the apparatus. When an error occurs in the reproduction means, further storage in the image memory is inhibited in response to an instruction to start image reproduction until a manual confirmation is provided. This enables an operator to determine whether reproduction should be restarted after clearance of an error condition.
