A histogram is generated by dividing pixels constituting multivalued image data loaded onto a RAM 3 into a plurality of levels. On the basis of the histogram, a level or levels are changed of at least part of the pixels of the multivalued image data. The level change enables control of the image quality of hard copy pictures. The multivalued image data, the levels of at least part of the pixels of which are changed, is converted into binary image data representing pseudo-gray levels. A printer prints the output binary image data. The hard copy picture formed on a recording medium by the printer reproduces the multivalued image data loaded onto the RAM 3 with high fidelity.
Des données d'images multiformes constituées de pixels sont extraites d'une mémoire RAM (3) et séparées en fonction de leur niveau de façon à créer un histogramme. Sur la base de cet histogramme, on change les niveaux d'au moins une partie des pixels des données d'images multiformes. Il est ainsi possible de contrôler la qualité d'une image sur papier. Les données d'images multiformes dont au moins une partie des pixels a été changée de niveau sont transformées en données d'images binaires représentant une pseudo-gradation et sont affichées. Les données d'images binaires affichées sont imprimées par une imprimante. L'image sur papier formée sur un support d'enregistrement par l'imprimante représente avec une grande fidélité les données d'images extraites de la mémoire RAM (3).
