The invention relates to image-processing devices which can be used to identify, process and select discreet light sources present in a video image made up of pixels. The aim of the invention is to present the user with a processed image in real time, thereby enabling improved recognition of light sources in a poor contrast image. In the field of aeronautics, the inventive device constitutes a landing aid by allowing improved recognition of runway lights in poor visibility conditions, such as fog. The invention is based on three major principles: (i) the main image processing operations are only performed on a small number of pixels with a level greater than a threshold, (ii) a plausibility estimator assesses the probability of sources existing in the image and (iii) the threshold is variable according to a certain number of image parameters.
L'invention concerne les dispositifs de traitement d'images permettant d"identifier, de traiter et de sélectionner des sources de lumière discrètes présentes dans une image vidéo composée de pixels. Le but est la présentation, en temps réel, à un utilisateur d'une image traitée permettant une meilleure reconnaissance de sources de lumière dans une image faiblement contrastée. En utilisation aéronautique, ce dispositif apporte une aide à l'atterrissage en permettant une meilleure reconnaissance des lampes de piste en conditions de visibilité dégradée, notamment par temps de brouillard. L'invention repose sur trois principes majeurs .bullet. Les traitements d'images principaux ne sont effectués que sur un petit nombre de pixels dont le niveau est supérieur à un seuil; .bullet. Un estimateur de vraisemblance évalue la probabilité d'existence de sources dans l'image; .bullet. Le seuil est variable en fonction d'un certain nombre de paramètres de l'image.
