- 22 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An image processing system has a reader for reading an image of an original document, a page memory for storing at least one-page parallel image data, an encoder for compressing parallel image data from the page memory and generating the compressed image data onto a computer bus, a serial/parallel converter for receiving the serial image data from the reader and converting the data to parallel data to be stored in the page memory, and a transceiver for generating the parallel image data from the page memory without going through the decoder.
