An image scanner including an original holder 12 for holding an original copy 11 placed on a transparent original support plate 10 in place. The original copy 11 is illuminated by a light source 13 and a reflected light 18 from the original copy 11 is received by an image sensor 14. To check a position of the original copy 11 visually while the original holder 12 is closed, the original holder 12 comprises a transparent first polarizing plate having a first polarizing angle. An external light coming inside the case body through the first polarizing plate is prevented from reaching the image sensor 14 by a second polarizing plate 16 which has a second polarizing angle rotated by 90° from the first polarizing angle and is disposed between the original copy 11 and the image sensor 14 in a light path of a light incoming into the image sensor 14.
