A method for segmenting an image compris-ing: determining an initial estimation of a boundary between at least two components in a region of an image to be seg-mented; providing image data from the region of the image to be segmented, the image data representing gray level values of a plurality of image elements of the components; modelling the image data on a mixture of at least two statistical distributions, each statistical distribution having more than one parameter, and each component being associated with certain weights of the statistical distributions in the mixture; estimating the pa-rameters of the statistical distributions in the mixture; for each component, estimating the weights of the statistical distribu-tions in the mixture based on the estimated parameters and the image data of each image element; and optimizing the initial estimation of the boundary between the components based on the estimated parameters and estimated weights.
L'invention concerne un procédé de segmentation d'image, consistant à : effectuer une estimation initiale d'une délimitation entre au moins deux composants dans une zone d'une image à segmenter; obtenir des données image provenant de la zone de l'image à segmenter, ces données image représentant les valeurs de niveaux de gris d'une pluralité d'éléments d'image des composants; modéliser les données image sur un mélange d'au moins deux distributions statistiques, chaque distribution statistique comprenant plus d'un paramètre, et chaque composant étant associé à certains coefficients de pondération des distributions statistiques du mélange; estimer les paramètres des distribution statistiques du mélange; estimer pour chaque composant les coefficients de pondération de la distribution statistiques du mélange sur la base des paramètres estimés et des données image de chaque élément d'image; et optimiser l'estimation initiale de la délimitation entre les composants sur la base des paramètres estimés et des coefficients de pondération estimés.
