This invention is an image, sound and feeling simulation system (50) for dentistry, comprising a dental hand-held handpiece (52) having a drill (54) for drilling a cavity (56) in a tooth (58), the drill (54) having a drilling end (60), the dental handpiece (52) being shaped and dimensioned suitable to be held in the hand of a user, a first three-dimensional sensor (62) providing the system (50) with position and operation in space of at least the drill (54); and a data processing and display unit (68) for simulating of at least the drilling end (60) of the drill (54). The system (50) further comprises means to control the flow of compressed air operating the drill (54) and thus to control the rotation of the drill (54) in order to imitate the sound and hand feeling associated when drilling through tooth layers of different hardness.

Ce système (50) de simulation d'image, de son et de sensation pour la dentisterie, comprend une pièce à main dentaire (52) tenue à la main, comportant une fraise (54) permettant de creuser une cavité (56) dans une dent (58), la fraise (54) présentant une extrémité de creusement (60), la pièce à main dentaire (52) ayant une forme et une dimension telles qu'elle peut être tenue à la main par l'utilisateur; un premier capteur en trois dimensions (62) donnant au système (50) la position et l'orientation dans l'espace au moins de la fraise (54); et une unité de traitement et d'affichage d'informations (68) permettant de simuler au moins l'extrémité de creusement (60) de la fraise (54).
