ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A non-impact printing system is disclosed wherein electrical pulse signals control the lateral movement of a print head and the transfer therefrom of information bits to a receiver. Printing is accomplished by employing various imaging technologies including flash transfer, electrographics and xerography. An elongated platen supports a receiving medium. A print head is mounted to be advanced along the length of the platen and adjacent the surface thereof. The print head is capable of handling an intermediate surface and has marking material for forming an image of marking material on the intermediate surface, the image being transfer- able from the intermediate surface to the receiving medium supporting by the platen. An additional imaging device cooperates with the print head to produce a marking material image at the print head, which is advanced along the length of the platen. Control logics circuitry controls the device which advances the print head and the device which transfers the marking material image to the receiving medium and coordinates the operation of the these two components so that marking material images can be transferred to a predetermined position on the receiving medium.
