ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Disclosed are new imidazo[2,1-b]benzothiazoles of formula I Image (I) wherein R1 represents a group of formula II Image (II) in which R4 and R5 are H or alkyl and R6 is H, alkyl, phenyl, halogen, alkoxycarbonyl, cyano, amido or a mono- or dialkylamido, or R1 represents a group of formula III Image (III) in which R7 and R8 are H or alkyl; and R2 and R3 together represent a group Image or Image in which m is 1 to 3 and X1 and X2 are H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, arylalkoxy, aryloxy, halogen, nitrile or azido; or X1 and X2 together represent methylenedioxy, and acid addition salts thereof. Processes for preparing these new compounds which possess benzodiazepine inverse agonist and/or tranquilising properties are also described, as well as pharmaceutical compositions containing them.
