A class of 3-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives, substituted at the meta position of the phenyl ring by an optionally substituted aryl or heteroaryl group which is directly attached or bridged by an oxygen atom or a -NH- linkage, are selective ligands for GABAA receptors, in particular having high affinity for the .alpha.2 and/or .alpha.3 subunit thereof, and are accordingly of benefit in the treatment and/or prevention of disorders of the central nervous system, including anxiety and convulsions.
L'invention concerne une catégorie de dérivés de 3-phénylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, substitués à la position méta du cycle phénylique par un groupe hétéroaryle ou aryle éventuellement substitué directement lié ou pontés par un atome d'oxygène ou une liaison NH. Ces dérivés sont des ligands sélectifs pour des récepteurs de GABA¿A?, en particulier, ils présentent une affinité élevée pour les sous-unités .alpha.2 et/ou .alpha.3 de ces derniers; ils sont, de ce fait, avantageux dans le traitement et/ou la prévention de troubles du système nerveux central, y compris l'anxiété et les convulsions.
