Imidazole compounds having adenosine deaminase inhibitory activity represented by formula (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen, hydroxy, protected hydroxy, or aryl optionally substituted with suitable substituent (s); R2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R3 is hydroxy or protected hydroxy; R4 is cyano, (hydroxy)iminoamino(lower)alkyl, carboxy, protected carboxy, heterocyclic group optionally substituted with amino, or carbamoyl optionally substituted with suitable substituent(s); and -A- is -Q- or -O-Q-, wherein Q is single bond or lower alkylene, provided that when R2 is lower alkyl, then R1 is hydroxy, protected hydroxy, or aryl optionally substituted with suitable substituent(s), its prodrug, or their salt. The compounds are useful for treating and/or preventing diseases for which adenosine is effective.
Composés d'imidazole possédant une activité d'inhibiteurs d'adénosine déaminase et représentés par la formule (I) dans laquelle R?1¿ représente hydrogène, hydroxy, hydroxy protégé ou aryle éventuellement substitué par un ou plusieurs substituants appropriés; R?2¿ représente hydrogène ou alkyle inférieur; R?3¿ représente hydroxy ou hydroxy protégé; R?4¿ représente cyano, (hydroxy)iminoaminoalkyle(inférieur), carboxy, carboxy protégé, un groupe hétérocyclique éventuellement substitué par amino ou carbamoyle éventuellement substitué par un ou plusieurs substituants appropriés; et -A- représente -Q- ou -O-Q-, dans laquelle Q représente une liaison unique ou alkylène inférieur, à condition que, quand R?2¿ représente alkyle inférieur, R?1¿ représente hydroxy, hydroxy protégé ou aryle éventuellement substitué par un ou plusieurs substituants appropriés; leur promédicament ou leur sel. Ces composés sont utiles pour traiter et/ou prévenir des maladies pour lesquelles l'adénosine joue un rôle efficace.
