Provided are compounds which have steroid C17,20 lyase inhibiting effect and are useful as preventive or therapeutic agents for prostatism and tumors including breast cancer. Specifically, compounds represented by the general formula (Ia) or (Ib), or salts thereof: (Ia) (Ib) wherein R is hydrogen or a protecting group; R1 is lower alkyl or cycloalkyl; and A and B are each an optionally substituted 5- or 6-membered ring bearing an amide linkage in the ring.
