ABSTRACT The invention provides imidazolylpropionitriles of the general formula Image I in which R represents an aromatic hydrocarbon radical that is unsubtituted or substituted by one or more of the same or different substituteds selected from halo- gen atoms, (C1-C4)-alkyl, (C1-C4)-alkoxyl and (C1-C4)-alkylthio radicals and trifluoromethyl and nitro groups, and R1 represents a (C1-C10)-alkyl, (C3-C8)-alkenyl, (C3-C8)-alkynyl or phenylalkyl radical each of which is unsubstituted or sub- stituted by one or more of the same or different substituents selected from halogen atoms, (C1-C4)- alkyl, (C1-C4)-alkoxy and (C1-C4)-alkylthio radicals and trifluoromethyl and nitro goups. and their acid addition salts with inorganic and organic acids, a process for the manufacture of these compounds and biocidal agents containing them, especially agents having fungicidal action. The agents also have a growth- regulating and a bactericidal action.
