The present invention relates to the use of complexes of transition metals having a ligand containing a phosphorus or arsenic atom bound to the transition metal through an oxygen atom, a sulphur atom or an amido radical. The complexes may be activated with conventional activators and are useful in solution, slurry and gas phase polymerization of olefins.
