A method for mitigating degradation of a wooden piece immersed in water caused by the presence of microorganisms in the water and the corresponding wooden piece, in which a large number of staples made of a material comprising iron are driven into a water-exposed surface of the wooden piece. The staples are distributed on the water-exposed surface of the wooden piece with an homogeneous density of staples on the water-exposed sur-face and a deepness of driving of the staples into the wooden piece. The homogeneous density of staples and the deepness of driving of the staples are adjusted to pro-duce, by means of a chemical reaction between the water and the iron of the staples when the water immerses the water-exposed surface, a homogeneous ferrous oxide bar-rier on and underneath the water-exposed surface over a certain thickness into the wooden piece to protect the wooden piece against degradation caused by the presence of microorganisms in the water.
La présente invention concerne un procédé pour atténuer la dégradation d'une pièce de bois immergée dans de l'eau causée par la présence de micro-organismes dans l'eau et la pièce de bois correspondante, dans lequel un grand nombre d'agrafes constituées d'un matériau comprenant du fer sont entraînées dans une surface exposée à l'eau de la pièce de bois. Les agrafes sont distribuées sur la surface exposée à l'eau de la pièce de bois avec une densité homogène d'agrafes sur la surface exposée à l'eau et une certaine profondeur d'entraînement des agrafes dans la pièce de bois. La densité homogène d'agrafes et la profondeur d'entraînement des agrafes sont ajustées pour produire, au moyen d'une réaction chimique entre l'eau et le fer des agrafes lorsque l'eau immerge la surface exposée à l'eau, une barrière d'oxyde ferreux homogène sur et au-dessous de la surface exposée à l'eau sur une certaine épaisseur dans la pièce de bois pour protéger la pièce de bois contre la dégradation causée par la présence de micro-organismes dans l'eau.
