RAYCHEM CORPORATION CASE NO. MP0289 A B S T R A C T The invention relates to self-limiting electrical heaters comprising polymer PTC elements. A water-impermeable barrier surrounds the PTC element and the electrodes so that the heater can be immersed in water substantially indef- initely without damage thereto. A preferred beater is a water bed heater comprising an elongate PTC core having electrodes embedded therein and a barrier in the form of a polyester/aluminium/polyester laminate spirally wrapped around the PTC element and sealed to itself and to the underlying surface.
