An immobiliser device is provided for an engine or vehicle having a wiring loom (12) with a first connector (10) which is connectable to a complementary second connector (18) of an essential unit (20) for the engine or vehicle. The immobiliser device comprises a housing (34) which can be permanently attached by epoxy resin to the first connector whilst still permitting the first connector to be connected to the second connector, and a circuit (42) which normally disconnects and/or shorts at least one (24A) of the wires of the wiring loom adjacent the first connector and which can be disabled by an authorised user of the vehicle to connect the wire and/or remove the short.
