The present invention provides methods for detecting the presence of antibodies to a microorganism (e.g., Chlamydia tra- chomatis) associated with a sexually transmitted disease in a biological sample, preferably urine. The methods of the invention comprise contacting the sample with an antigen from the microorganism and detecting the formation of an antigen-antibody complex.
