The present invention relates to the use of a composition exhibiting antiviral properties, comprising small molecular weight components of less than 3000 daltons, and having the following properties: a) is extractable from bile of animals; b) is capable of stimulating monocytes and macrophages in vitro and in vivo; c) is capable of modulating tumor necrosis factor production; d) contains no measurable IL-1.alpha., IL-1.beta., TNF, IL-6, IL-8, IL-4, GM-CSF or IFN-.gamma.; e) shows no cytotoxicity to human peripheral blood mononuclear cells or lymphocytes; and f) is not an endotoxin. The invention also relates to the use of the antiviral composition when used in conjunction with other drugs such as antiviral compounds or immunomodulators such as interferon.
L'invention concerne l'utilisation d'une composition affichant des propriétés antivirales, comprenant des composantes de faible poids moléculaire, soit de moins de 3 000 daltons, et ayant les propriétés suivantes : a) extractible de la bile des animaux; b) capable de stimuler les monocytes et les macrophages in vitro et in vivo; c) capable de moduler la production du facteur de la nécrose tumorale; d) ne contenant aucun IL-1.alpha., IL-1.bêta., TNF, IL-6, IL-8, IL-4, GM-CSF ni IFN-.gamma. mesurable; e) n'affichant aucune cytotoxicité envers les cellules mononucléaires du sang périphérique humain; et f) n'étant pas une endotoxine. L'invention a aussi trait à l'utilisation de la composition antivirale lorsqu'elle est utilisée de concert avec d'autres médicaments comme des composés antiviraux ou des immunomodulateurs comme l'interféron.
