The poxvirus proteins designated A41L and 130L bind to three receptor-like protein tyrosine phosphatases (RPTP), leukocyte common antigen related protein (LAR), RPTP .delta., and RPTP-.sigma., that are present on the cell surface of immune cells. When a host is infected with the poxvirus, binding of A41L to cell surface proteins on the host cells results in suppression of the immune response. The present invention provides agents such as antibodies, and antigen-binding fragments thereof, small molecules, aptamers, small interfering RNAs, and peptide-IgFc fusion polypeptides that interact with one or more of LAR, RPTP-.delta., and RPTP-.sigma. expressed by immune cells or interact with a polynucleotide encoding the RPTP. Also provided are RPTP Ig domain oligomers and Fc fusion polypeptides. Such agents are useful for treating an immunological disorder in a subject according to the methods described herein.

Les protéines des poxvirus nommées A41L et 130L se lient à trois protéines tyrosine phosphatases de type récepteur (RPTP), à savoir la protéine associée à l'antigène commun aux leucocytes (LAR), RPTP-.delta. et RPTP-.sigma., qui sont présentes sur la surface de cellules immunitaires. Lorsqu'un hôte est infecté par le poxvirus, la liaison de A41L à des protéines de surface situées sur les cellules hôtes entraîne la suppression de la réponse immunitaire. La présente invention concerne des agents tels que des anticorps et des fragments de liaison à l'antigène de ces derniers, des petites molécules, des aptamères, des petits ARN interférents et des polypeptides de fusion peptide-IgFc qui interagissent avec LAR, RPTP-.delta. et/ou RPTP-.sigma. exprimées par des cellules immunitaires, ou interagissent avec un polynucléotide codant pour RPTP. L'invention a également trait à des oligomères du domaine Ig de RPTP et à des polypeptides de fusion Fc. De tels agents sont utiles pour traiter un trouble immunologique chez un sujet, conformément aux méthodes proposées dans l'invention.
