Composition suitable for use as a coating, such as an impact resistant coating on a superalloy substrate intended for use in hostile thermal environments. The coating material includes zircons a stabilized in a predominately tetragonal phase by inclusion of about 3 to about 6 mole % of a first co-stabilizer selected from YO 1.5, YbO 1,5, HoO 1.5, ErO 1.5, TmO 1.5, LuO 1.5. NdO1.5, SmO1.5, EuO 1.5, GdO 1.5, DyO 1.5, and combinations thereof, and 10 to about 20 mole % of a second co-stabilizer selected from Ti02, Pd02, V02, Ge02, and combinations thereof. The coaling optionally includes hafnia (Hf02). The amounts of the first and second co-stabilizers are tailored to maintain the tetragonal phase, i.e., avoiding the monoclinic phase during thermal cycling and to provide a high tetragonality for improved impact resistance.

La présente invention concerne une composition convenant pour une utilisation comme revêtement résistant aux chocs sur un substrat de superalliage destiné aux environnements thermiques hostiles. Le matériau de revêtement comprend de la zircone stabilisée dans une phase principalement quadratique par l'inclusion d'environ 3 à environ 6 % en moles d'un premier costabilisant choisi parmi Y2O3, Yb2O3, Ho2O3, Er2O3, Tm2O3, Lu2O3, Nd2O3, Sm2O3, Eu2O3, Gd2O3, Dy2O3 et les combinaisons de ceux-ci, et de 10 à environ 20 % en moles d'un deuxième costabilisant choisi parmi TiO2, PdO2, VO2 et GeO2. éventuellement, le revêtement comprend aussi de l'oxyde d'hafnium (HfO2). Les quantités des premier et deuxième costabilisants sont adaptées pour conserver la phase quadratique, c.-à-d. éviter l'apparition de la phase monoclinique pendant le cyclage thermique et obtenir une zircone fortement quadratique pour une résistance améliorée aux chocs.
