- 16 - Clevis-Mounted Impact Ripper Abstract of the Disclosure An improved ripper assembly wherein a ripper shank is mounted to the beam of a tractor by a clevis pin so as to minimize side forces acting on the shank pin. The vertical axis of the clevis pin may be aligned with the distal end of the ripper tip and the horizontal axis of the shank pivot pin. The impact surfaces of the impacting mechanism and shank preferably define a plane of abutment in which lies a radius from the horizontal shank pivot pin axis. This plane is further preferably accurately perpendicularity the ripper tip axis extending perpendicularly to the radius. The arrangement provides a free pivoting action of the ripper assembly about the vertical axis of the clevis pin so as to effectively minimize side loads for improved extended life of the ripper assembly.
