An impact slider assembly for a guardrail permits adjoining rails to collapse upon each other when impacted. The assembly includes a slider connected to a first rail, surrounding the first rail. In use, the slider gathers and retains the first and any subsequent rails which telescopically overlap with each other during an impact. The assembly may be configured to permit the rails to telescope upon an impact substantially in-line with their longitudinal direction. The slider may be connected to an end of the first rail at or near a connection with a second rail.
