An implantable brachy-therapy device (10) includes a bio-compatible outer capsule (14) containing a radiation shielding element (30), and radioactive isotope (26) between the shielding element, and the wall of the outer capsule. When the device is at body temperature, radiation is emitted by the isotope through the wall of the outer capsule. When a predetermined amount of energy is applied to the device, the shielding element is adapted to at least partially surround the isotope, and thereby at least partially prevent the transmission of radiation through the outer capsule.
L'invention concerne un dispositif de curiethérapie implantable (10) qui comporte une capsule extérieure biocompatible (14) contenant un élément de protection contre le rayonnement (30) et un isotope radioactif (26) situé entre l'élément de protection et la paroi de la capsule extérieure. Lorsque le dispositif est à la température du corps, l'isotope émet un rayonnement à travers la paroi de la capsule extérieure. Lorsqu'une quantité prédéterminée d'énergie est appliquée au dispositif, l'élément de protection est entoure au moins partiellement l'isotope, et ainsi empêche au moins partiellement la transmission de rayonnement à travers la capsule extérieure.
