This invention is implanted fluid shunting devices and associated methods for controlling the pressure of fluids within anatomical spaces or cavities of the body. The device (10) generally comprises a tube (12) having a diffusion barrier (20) (e.g., diffusion chamber) formed on a proximal end thereof. Fluid which flows through the tube will collect within the diffusion chamber (20) and will diffuse outwardly therethrough. However, the presence of the diffusion chamber (20) will prevent microbes, cells or other matter from interfering with, or back flowing through, the tube (12). Additionally, the tube may be provided with a pressure opening aperture (30) through which fluid from the tube may flow into the diffusion chamber (20). Such pressure opening aperture (30) will remain closed until the pressure of fluid within the tube exceeds a predetermined maximum pressure pmax. In this manner, the pressure opening aperture (30) will limit the amount of fluid drained from the anatomical space or cavity of the body, thereby avoiding hypotony within such anatomical space or cavity.

Cette invention concerne des dispositifs implantés servant au pontage de fluides, ainsi que des procédés permettant de réguler la pression de fluides dans des espaces ou des cavités de l'anatomie du corps. Ce dispositif (10) comprend, de manière générale, un tube (12) qui possède une barrière de diffusion (20), telle qu'un chambre de diffusion, formée à son extrémité proximale. Le fluide traversant le tube va s'amasser dans la chambre de diffusion (20) et se diffuser vers l'extérieur à travers celle-ci. La présence de la chambre de diffusion (20) permet en outre d'éviter que des microbes, des cellules ou toute autre matière n'entravent le tube (12) ou ne soient refoulés par celui-ci. Le tube peut en outre comprendre un orifice de libération de pression (30) à travers lequel le fluide peut s'écouler dudit tube dans la chambre de diffusion (20). Cet orifice (30) reste fermé jusqu'à ce que la pression du fluide dans le tube dépasse une pression maximale (pmax) prédéterminée. L'orifice de libération de pression (30) permet ainsi de limiter la quantité de fluide qui est drainée de l'espace ou de la cavité anatomique du corps, et d'éviter toute hypotonie dans cet espace ou cavité.
