IMPREGNATED SUBSTRATE FOR CHROMATOGRAPHIC ASSAYS Abstract of the Disclosure A test and test article for carrying out thin-layer chromatography for the detection of drugs in a physiological medium is diclosed. The chromatographic plate for carrying out the test is impregnated with a vanadium salt which chemically reacts with a broad range of basic amine-containing drugs in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid to produce a characteristic color on the chromatographic plate. The steps of extracting the drug from the physiological medium, introducing the drug to the chromatographic plate and developing the chromatographic plate are conventional. By including the vanadium salt on the chromatographic plate, however, the detection of the drugs thereon is carried out by exposure to sulphuric acid alone.
