An airbag inflator (10) has a casing (84) with a vent (90) to the airbag, and a piston (26) received in the casing (84). The piston (26) has a head (24) which forms a liquid propellent reservoir (32) and combustion chamber (30). Injection ports (52) are located in the piston head (24). A seal ring (50) blocks the injection ports (52). When ignited, the seal ring (50) is driven forward to unblock the injection ports (52) and allow the liquid propellent (32) into the combustion chamber (30) where it generates combustion gases to inflate the airbag (104).
L'invention concerne un gonfleur (10) de coussins gonflables de sécurité, comportant un logement (84) pourvu d'un orifice (90) communiquant avec le coussin gonflable de sécurité, et un piston (26) reçu dans le logement (84). Le piston (26) comporte une tête (24) formant un réservoir (32) de propulseur liquide et une chambre de combustion (30). Des orifices d'injection (52) sont situés dans la tête de piston (24). Un anneau d'étanchéité (50) permet de bloquer les orifices d'injection (52). Lorsqu'il est allumé, l'anneau d'étanchéité (50) est entraîné vers l'avant pour débloquer les orifices d'injection (52) et permettre au propulseur liquide (32) de s'engager dans la chambre de combustion (30), où il produit des gaz de combustion servant à gonfler le coussin gonflable de sécurité (104).
