A surfactant composition comprising: alkylarylsulfonate surfactant system comprising at least two isomers of the alkylarylsulfonate surfactant of formula (I) wherein L is an acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbyl of from 6 to 18 carbon atoms in total; M is a cation or cation mixture and q is the valence thereof; a and b are numbers selected such that said alkylarylsulfonate surfactant is electroneutral; R', R" and R"' are independently selected from H and C1 to C3 alkyl; both of R' and R" are nonterminal attached to L and at least one of R' and R" is Ct to C3 alkyl; and A is aryl; wherein said alkylarylsulfonate surfactant system comprises two or more isomers with respect to positions of attachment of R', R" and A to L; in at least about 40 ~o of said composition, A is attached to L in the position which is selected from positions alpha and beta- to either of the two terminal carbon atoms of L; and wherein further said alkylarylsulfonate surfactant system has at least one of the following properties: said alkylarylsulfonate surfactant system has a ratio of nonquaternary to quaternary carbon atoms in L of at least about 5: I by weight, when said quaternary carbon atoms are present; or percentage biodegradation, as measured by the modified SCAS test, that exceeds tetrapropylene benzene sulfonate.

L'invention porte sur une composition de tensio-actifs comprenant au moins deux isomères d'un tensio-actif d'alkylarylsulfonate de formule (I) dans laquelle: L est un hydrocarbyle aliphatique acyclique à 6 à 18 atomes de carbone au total; M est un cation ou un mélange de cations dont q est la valence; a et b sont des nombres choisis pour que la susdite composition soit électriquement neutre; R', R'' et R''' sont choisi indépendamment entre H et C1 à C3 alkyle; R' et R'' sont tous deux liés non terminalement à L, et l'un de R' et R'' au moins est C1 à C3 alkyle; et A est aryle; ledit système de tensio-actifs d'alkylarylsulfonate comporte deux isomères ou plus par rapport aux positions de fixation de R', R'' et A à L; dans au moins 40 % de ladite composition, A est fixé à L en une position choisie entre alpha et bêta à l'un des deux atomes terminaux de carbone de L. En outre ledit système de tensio-actifs d'alkylarylsulfonate présente l'une au moins des caractéristiques suivantes: dans L, le rapport pondéral d'atomes non quaternaires à quaternaires est d'au moins 5:1 lorsque lesdits atomes quaternaires de carbone sont présents, ou le pourcentage de biodégradation mesuré par le test SCAS modifié dépasse celui du tétrapropylènebenzènesulfonate.
