Accurate measurements of the concentration of a sterilant in a steril-ization chamber are provided through the use of a light source, a first detector that receives light from the light source that has not passed through the sterilization cham-ber and a detector that receives light from the light source that has passed through the sterilization chamber. The light contains wavelengths known to be absorbed by the sterilant. A controller receives and process-es signals received from the two detectors to cancel changes in the output of the light source and then apply a modified Beer- -Lambert law to determine the concentra-tion of the sterilant gas.

L'invention concerne des mesures précises de la concentration d'un stérilisant dans une chambre de stérilisation par le biais d'une source lumineuse, d'un premier détecteur recevant la lumière de cette source n'ayant pas traversé ladite chambre et d'un détecteur recevant la lumière de cette source ayant traversé ladite chambre. La lumière contient des longueurs d'onde dont on sait qu'elles sont absorbées par le stérilisant. Un contrôleur reçoit et traite des signaux reçus de la part des deux détecteurs pour annuler des modifications relatives à la sortie de ladite source et appliquer ensuite une loi de Beer-Lambert modifiée afin de déterminer la concentration du gaz stérilisant.
