Disclosed is a heavy metal removal media containing ferric hydroxide having unique levels of microporosity and mesoporosity/macroporosity, and/or a specific average particle size and/or granule size. The ferric hydroxide is made by simultaneously combining in a vessel at least one iron salt and at least one hydroxide compound, and then recovering the ferric hydroxide. The ferric hydroxide made by simultaneous mixing is effective in removing heavy metals, such as arsenic, from aqueous systems.

L'invention concerne un hydroxyde ferrique contenant un milieu d'extraction de métaux lourds présentant des niveaux uniques de microporosité et de mésoporosité/macroporosité, et/ou une dimension des particules moyenne spécifique et/ou une granulométrie moyenne spécifique. L'hydroxyde ferrique est formé par combinaison simultanée, dans un récipient, d'au moins un sel de fer et d'au moins un composé hydroxyde, puis récupération de l'hydroxyde ferrique. L'hydroxyde ferrique formé par mélange simultané est efficace pour éliminer les métaux lourds, tels que l'arsenic, de systèmes aqueux.
